What’s the best way to pay for a solar installation?

We know it seems like a big investment but your solar installation can make you money right from the start. Our Coast Wide Energy in-house CEC Accredited Solar Design Engineer, breaks down the ways you can save money with support from the Government rebate and finance.

Australian Government Solar Rebate

The Australian Government has the Renewable Energy Scheme organised by the Clean Energy Council, which helps make solar more affordable for everyone while taking care of our environment. .

The rebate for residential and commercial solar is in the form of Small Technology Certificates (STC) and can cover up to 40% of the upfront cost of the system.

How does it work?

The Small Technology Certificates (STC) are given based on your location in Australia (zones based on postcode) and the size of the solar system you intend to install.

Your Coast Wide Energy solar quote will work out your rebate and apply it to your proposal so you can see the benefits straight up without any extra research.

For example: If you live in NSW (Zone 2) and you wanted to install a 5kWh rooftop system, you would be legible to receive 76 STC’s which can be traded for $39.40 each (current price of certificates) totalling $2,994.

What are the finance options available?

At Coast Wide Energy we understand that there are many demands on the household budget and although a solar installation makes complete sense it can be difficult to fund upfront.

We have a simple, cost effective solution for you and will include a finance option in your proposal. We utilise Solaris finance for households who wish to install a solar installation and pay it off in instalments and it can end up being less than your current electricity bill.

The upfront finance can be positively geared so that:

Yearly repayments + new reduced electricity bill (thanks to your solar system) = less than your current electricity bill

Consider the following example, a Central Coast home 27kW solar system we have recently designed has the following projected financial return with Solaris Finance:

Loan amount : $17,500 over 5 years

Repayments: $370 per month (or $22,200 in total with 5% p.a. interest)

Electricity Bill prior to installation: $7000 per year

Electricity Bill post installation: $0 per year
